Workshops organized as part of the IoT4schools project
Workshops for teachers
Workshop No. 3:
IoT Workshops for Teachers - Join #IoT4Schools!
As part of the #IoT4Schools project, we invite high school teachers to unique, hands-on workshops on the Internet of Things (IoT), held at the Faculty of Physics, Warsaw University of Technology.
This is a great opportunity for both those who want to begin their IoT adventure and intermediate teachers who want to develop their technical and teaching skills.
What exactly is the Internet of Things (IoT)?
IoT is a network of smart devices equipped with sensors and connected to the internet. They can collect data, respond to their surroundings, and communicate with each other.
They accompany us every day: from smartwatches monitoring health, through smart lighting and alarm systems, to automatic irrigation systems and modern medical diagnostics.
It is estimated that by 2030, over 30 billion such devices will be operating worldwide—creating smart cities, supporting environmental protection, home automation, and the development of modern education.
What will we create at the workshop?
Each participant will build a smart mini home automation system that will enable, among other things:
- automatically opening and closing windows depending on temperature and humidity,
- controlling lighting depending on motion detection and time of day,
- detecting alarm situations, such as burglary.
The project will be based on Raspberry Pi Pico W - a modern, affordable microcontroller with built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Perfect for education and IoT prototyping.
Programming will be done in MicroPython—a simple, intuitive language for microcontrollers.
👉 Knowledge of MicroPython is not required—we'll start with the basics.
Additionally, you'll learn how to send and receive data from the Adafruit IO cloud, creating complete, modern IoT projects.
Workshop Objectives
- Introduce teachers to the concept of the Internet of Things,
- Develop competencies in conducting IoT classes in high schools,
- Acquire practical skills in electronics and programming on the Raspberry Pi Pico,
- Presentation of the results of the IoT4Schools project, including educational materials and sample IoT projects ready for use in the classroom.
Organization Workshops
- The workshops are free,
- conducted in Polish,
- no prerequisites—anyone can join,
- even if you participated in the first edition—we invite you again! The topics of this edition are completely new.
- You can register for workshops 3 and 4 simultaneously—both editions cover different topics.
- Each participant will receive a certificate and a Raspberry Pi Pico W board (if you have one, let us know and we'll prepare other useful components).
