Workshops for teachers
Workshop No. 4:
đ IoT Workshop â Intelligent Vehicle and Traffic Analysis
Edition 4 of the #IoT4Schools project
As part of the #IoT4Schools project, we invite high school teachers to another unique workshop on the Internet of Things (IoT), organized at the Faculty of Physics, Warsaw University of Technology.
The classes are aimed at both those who are just beginning their IoT adventure and those with intermediate levels of advancement who want to develop modern technical and teaching skills.
đ What exactly is IoT?
The Internet of Things is a network of intelligent devices capable of collecting data and communicating via the internet.
It surrounds us at every stepâfrom smartwatches that monitor activity, through smart lighting, to security systems and modern building automation.
It is estimated that by 2030, over 30 billion such devices will be in operation worldwideâcreating smart cities, supporting environmental protection, home automation, and the development of modern education.
đ¤ What will we build at the workshop?
During this edition, we will create an intelligent line follower vehicle that:
- will automatically follow a line,
- will use distance sensors to detect obstacles,
- will adjust its speed depending on the road conditions,
- will avoid collisions by analyzing sensor data.
But that's not all!
We will also build a simple road congestion monitoring system that:
- will measure traffic flow (e.g., the number of vehicles passing a specific point),
- will send data about the load on a given route to the cloud Adafruit IO,
- will allow you to visualize the situation "live" thanks to an online dashboard.
Participants will learn to create a project combining electronics, programming, and data analysisâperfect for later use in classrooms.
âď¸ IoT in the Cloud
During the workshop, you will learn the basics of working with the Adafruit IO serviceâyou will learn how to send data from sensors, create visualizations, and respond to changes in the environment via IoT.
đŻ Workshop Objectives
- to introduce teachers to the concept and practical applications of the Internet of Things,
- to familiarize them with the methodology of conducting IoT classes in secondary schools,
- to develop skills in electronics and programming on the Raspberry Pi Pico W board,
- to present educational materials created in the project IoT4Schools, including ready-made lesson plans and projects for students.
Workshop Organization
- The workshops are free,
- conducted in Polish,
- no prior experience with IoT, MicroPython, or electronics required,
- even if you participated in the first editionâwe invite you to come back! The topics are completely new,
- you can register for both workshops 3 and 4âboth modules complement each other.
- Each participant will receive a certificate and a Raspberry Pi Pico W board (if you have one, let us know and we'll prepare other useful components).
