IoT4schools

As part of the project "Bringing the Internet of Things in school education as a tool to address 21st century challenges" (Erasmus+ 2023-1-PL01-KA220-SCH-000154043), various workshops are organized for teachers, students and all people associated with education. The workshops aim to familiarize participants with the subject of the Internet of Things (IoT) - i.e. devices equipped with various types of sensors that send data via the Internet to the cloud or other devices. Today, we have many such devices that help us in our daily lives, such as smart watches measuring vital parameters or various devices controlled by applications such as furnaces, blinds, garden irrigation systems, etc. It is estimated that by 2030 we will use over 30 billion devices connected to the Internet, which will help in the efficient functioning of smart cities, environmental protection, automation of home appliances or health monitoring

The aim of the IoT4schools project is to prepare a curriculum aimed at implementing IoT topics in primary and secondary schools. The introduction of IoT into education is crucial in order to provide young people with the necessary technical skills that are increasingly crucial in the labor market, as well as to increase awareness of the challenges and problems in the 21st century and possible solutions based on the latest IoT technologies.

The project uses two boards, BBC Micro:bit and Raspberry Pi Pico. The first one is dedicated to younger students who are just starting to learn engineering subjects. Raspberry Pi Pico, on the other hand, is a fairly new board, dedicated to older high school students or university students. The choice of two platforms will provide comprehensive coverage of IoT teaching without leaving a gap in teaching. Based on the two platforms, interdisciplinary IoT projects are being prepared on the following topics: smart cities, home automation, health monitoring and environmental protection.
